Youth Programs
Youth Choir
The prime focus of youth choir is the experience of good singing and vocal training in a broad Christian tradition. Our repertoire ranges from African chant to contemporary British composers, such as John Rutter and Bob Chilcott, as well as music from The Toronto Mass Choir, a group much closer to home. Our repertoire reflects the diversity of our parish and is chosen to be a fun learning experience.
We have sung in unison, two, and three parts with guest instrumentalists, flute and drum. Boomwackers, shakers, triangles, ribbon sticks and dance are part of our practices and performance. We also had a little help from our friends as musical parents and other choristers joined us for Easter and Christmas anthems. We particularly enjoyed having the senior choir join us for the Caribbean Praise Medley at the 2009 Black History Service. We chose to change the name to Youth Choir to reflect the idea that choir is inclusive of 6-16 year olds as in other community choirs, such as The Upper Canada Children's Choir, The Bach Children's Choir and other youth church choirs in Unionville and Markham Village .
Server's Guild
The Server Guild is a youth based group, of mostly teens, who take turns assisting in the Sunday worship. They carry the processional torches and assist the Officiant in preparing and clearing the Altar as we celebrate Jesus' presence with us in Communion. Volunteers are coordinated by the Incumbent. There are periodic training sessions and there is a Server outing to a special event such as a Raptors' or Jays' game each year.
Youth Lounge
The Youth Lounge is an effort to help young people to transition from Confirmation to a wider role in the church. In today's society of political correctness Christian teenagers (and adults for that matter) often are not comfortable expressing their beliefs.
Our goal with the Youth Lounge is to give Christian youth a place to go and have fun being a teenager; but also where they can express their thoughts and feelings as a Christian with other teenagers, plus learn about growing up and living as an Anglican. Everyone in grades 7 to 12 is welcome.
The Youth Lounge is open approximately every three weeks during the 10:15 am parish worship.
